Alison Smith is BMI’s Sr. VP of Operations, Distribution & Administration, based in BMI’s New York office. She is responsible for the oversight and timing of BMI’s domestic and international royalty distributions to its affiliated songwriters, composers, and music publishers, and the direction of all activities related to the administration of musical works contained in BMI’s repertoire. Smith also manages customer service teams in New York, Nashville, and Los Angeles, which provide support to both internal departments at BMI and external clients regarding financial and catalogue administration needs, utilizing state-of-the-art digital technology. Considered an expert on performing rights distribution and administration, she continues to be recognized throughout the industry. In 2009 and 2010, Smith was honored as one of Billboard’s Top Power Players; in 2012 she was recognized as one of Billboard’s Women in Music. In 2014 and 2016, Smith was honored with the Nashville Business Journal’s Women in Music City Award.
