David Viewing is Founder and Managing Director of Ranger Computers Ltd. in Northampton, UK. In 1981, Viewing was the inventor of one of the very first portable computers, the ‘Husky.’ An early application for the Husky was sales data capture in the music business. In 1993, he was approached by the UK chart compilers and was awarded the contract to collect sales data from 1500 record stores. A new company, Ranger, was the result and that contract has now been renewed four more times, currently extending into 2019 and collecting sales data from UK and Irish independent stores. Since 2008, Ranger has developed an entirely new cloud-based chart system, ‘Ultimate,’ which produces the official national charts for Norway and Finland and contributes to charts in a number of other countries. In January 2017, the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania now have official charts the first time, also produced by Ultimate.
