Rethink The Remix: Open-Sourcing and Crowd-Sourcing Derivative Works

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

We live in a culture of remix where consumers have been transformed into creators while traditional recorded music has not kept up with technology. For an industry that was built upon and thrived on formats - there has not been a new format for more than 20 years. Streaming is said to be the saviour, but in an interactive world it remains a passive music experience.

What if music was treated like software? What if it was open-sourced? Made interactive and crowd-sourced? Allowing fans and music lovers to create new derivative works and publish them to streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube or Tidal all the while earning additional royalties for rights holders? Engaging fans through co-creation, turning them into a digital street team and making money? It's not just wishful thinking - it's all possible now. In this panel we'll look at how making music interactive can make music money.
