Jay Coyle
Music Geek Services Founder
Greater Nashville Area, TN
A life-long music geek, Jay can still recall riding in the family station wagon listening to the AM hits of the early 70’s and tuning into Casey Kasem every week to be exposed to the new singles of the day. Jay started reaching for his own stars at the age of 7 with the purchase of his first album (The Beatles “Help!”). This life-changing event started his omnivorous passion for hearing and knowing everything about bands. He turned this musical obsession into a real hobby when he started playing drums at the age of 10 and had already formed a band by the time he bought his first drum set at the age of 11.
Being a long time fan club member of bands through the years: Kiss in the 70’s; The Police, R.E.M., and Devo in the 80’s; Elvis Costello, Crowded House, and XTC in the 90’s- Jay has formed a keen sense of how to market to and serve the fans.
After a stint in marketing and special projects at the EMI CMG label in Nashville, Jay turned his focus toward consulting in a direct-to-fan and fan engagement role when he founded Music Geek Services in 2009. He has spearheaded new products and direct-to-fan initiatives for artists such as Barenaked Ladies, Letters to Cleo, Veruca Salt, Blake Babies, Sloan, the Presidents of the United States of America, Carbon Leaf, and Jars of Clay.
Jay’s goal of “super-serving the fans while serving the artists” rings even more true today as a member of the management team for Sloan and the Figgs. Jay also makes time to teach Music Marketing courses to a new era of music business students for Berklee Online and for the University of New Haven's Study-Away program in Nashville.
